"The biggest advantage of biofuels is that they contribute to farm profitability and encourage investment at farm level and in scientific research – the two essential ingredients for increasing production to feed a growing population," Mr Howarth explained.
Biofuels manufacturers could soon be converting coffee into a renewable power source.
Scientists at the University of Iowa have discovered a bacteria that feeds on caffeine, a process that can make the by-products useful for biofuel production.
