The biomass industry could be set to benefit from a new report which highlights the world's increasing use of natural resources.
Two European Commission reports reveal that worldwide resource use is set to triple by the year 2050 if things continue at the current rate.
Environment commissioner Janez Potocnik said that the new studies highlight the need to switch to renewable natural resources, which could be a major boost for the biomass industry.
He explained: "They clearly set out the enormous challenges ahead of us, but I am confident that we can rise to the challenge.
"The Commission is now finalising a 'Roadmap towards a Resource Efficient Europe', which sets a transformational agenda and prepares the ground for the steps ahead."
Earlier this week, the head of Drax Power Dorothy Thompson revealed that the firm is waiting for the UK government to officially back biomass before it invests any more in converting its power station to the fuel.
Typical Guttridge equipment used in the biomass industry includes:
Conveyors – screw conveyors – chain conveyors – belt conveyors
