Moorhouse's Brewery in Lancashire has opened a new £4.2 million facility in Burnley, trebling the company's production capacity to 1,000 barrels per week, or 15 million pints per year.
The brewery was bought by Bill Parkinson in 1985, when it produced just ten barrels a week, and since moving into supplying its cask ales to pubs and bottled beers to supermarkets, it has been under pressure to expand.
Moorhouse's new brewery has brought 20 new jobs to the town, and also includes a visitor centre, training centre for the licensed trade, and a restaurant and bar will follow soon.
The launch was attended by representatives from the Campaign for Real Ale, which has now granted it regional brewer status.
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News reports that AllGates in Wigan, which currently makes 500,000 pints of ale per year, is also looking to expand its production capacity fourfold in the future.
